About Us

Welcome to Fitzroy Medical Centre. We are located at 201 Fitzroy St, sharing a building Melbourne Physiotherapy, Pilates + Fitness Group. There is ticketed parking available at front of practice, and at the rear of the practice on Pattison Street.  and for those using public transport the 96 trams stops right across the road. Tram lines 3, 3a, 5, 16, 64, and 67 stop within walking distance,as do bus lines 246, 250, 600, 922 and 923.

Our Opening Hours are:

Mon-Fri 9.00 am – 1.00 pm

Sat – 1.00 pm-4.00 pm

The working hours may vary due to doctors holidays and sick leave.

All consultations are by appointment only.  Walk-in appointments are available for emergencies only. If you need a doctor outside of these hours, please contact our Locum Service, Your Health Place, on 9671 1200.

Health Professionals – tenants at Fitzroy Street Medical Centre

Dr. Martin Hassabi is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General practitioners. He has more than five years of hospital-based experience as a Resident Medical Officer and Registrar at the Royal Hobart Hospital and Dubbo Base Hospital. He worked in Emergency, Intensive Care Unit, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Orthopaedics Surgery, Endocrinology, Geriatric medicine, and Psychiatry.

Dr. Hassabi has a particular interest in aesthetic (cosmetic) medicine. He successfully runs his Melbourne cosmetic practice – Brio Medical Cosmetic Clinic (www.briomedicalcosmetic.com.au), addressing a wide range of aesthetic conditions. He holds a Professional Diploma of Aesthetic Medicine and a Professional Diploma of Skin Cancer Medicine. Dr. Hassabi received training in laser and IPL treatments.

He has a special interest in skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, fungal nail infection, hyperhidrosis, warts, xanthelasma, etc.

He enjoys spending his free time with his wife and two young children. His wife is a General Practitioner.

Dr Grant Burns (GP) practices on Saturdays. He joined our practice in 2019. He has a special interest in men’s health, chronic disease management and preventative health.

Dr Nilantha Jayarathna, General Practitioner, Male, FRACGP, MBBSSpeaks English and Sinhalese. Dr Nilantha Jayarathna obtained his qualifications MBBS in 2008 and had worked in intensive care, emergency units, general medical and surgical units during his career to get comprehensive experience to improve his ability to treat his patients safely. Dr Nilantha Jayarathna completed his fellowship -FRACGP in 2019 and has 12 years of experience as a medical practitioner with a special interest in chronic diseases management, minor procedures, men’s health, sexual health, mental health and cosmetics (Botox, fillers, PRP )as a GP.


Our Fees

Fitzroy St Medical Centre is a privately billing clinic.

The exceptions will be made for patients under 16 years old, some follow up appointments at the doctor’s discretion.

For minor procedures, such as dressings and cryotherapy, which ranges between $60.00 to $105.00 depending on the complexity of the procedure and if it takes place inside or outside of regular business hours.

For Implanon removals and insertions, the out of pocket fee can range between $115-$215 depending on complexity.

Information sheets are available for further clarification at reception.

If you are not eligible for a Medicare card, you will be charged a private fee, which must be paid at reception prior to your appointment at a flat rate of $85.00

Medical Reports will incur an out of pocket cost, depending on the complexity of the report. Other types of consultations will be charged at the discretion of your doctor, as applicable.

When you register as a patient of our practice, you provide consent for our doctors and practice staff to access and use your personal information so they can provide you with the best possible healthcare. Only staff who need to see your personal information will have access to it. If we need to use your information for anything else, we will seek additional consent from you to do this.

Ensuring your information stays private is paramount. Our practice abides by the Australian Privacy Laws and Principles and follows the guidelines of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioner’s Handbook for the management of health information in general practice. Patient Feedback

Your feedback is important to us. It helps the practice to continually improve. A suggestion box is provided in the waiting room or you can speak to the receptionist, phone or email us with your suggestions.

For the purposes of the feedback. Doctors at our practice are independent practitioners, not employees. The practice has no control over doctors’ professional conduct, schedules and fees.

As a preventive measure against transmission of COVID-19, our doctors have a consultation over the phone first. During this telephone consultation, you will work out with the doctor whether you need a face to face consultation. You will have face to face consultation then. GPs continue bulk-billing our patients in these difficult times. We stock AstraZeneca only. No Pfizer vaccine at our clinic.
